When, either a buyer, or a seller, hire a real estate agent, to represent, and hopefully, serve their best interests, shouldn’t they get, someone, who focuses on their needs, goals, and priorities, in a relevant, realistic, SANE way? While homeowners, who hope to sell their houses, often go through the motions of hiring an agent, all, too often, they do so, by selecting an individual, who tells them, what they want to hear! Many years ago, I trademarked a personal slogan, I’ll always tell you what you need to know, not just what you want to hear (TM), which represented, my personal belief, it’s essential, for anyone serving others, to be open, and honest, and tell them, what’s essential, even if it becomes a sort of, tough love! With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly examine, consider, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means, represents, and why it matters.
1. Sensible; sensitive; strengthen; strategy; sustainability: It’s important for a quality agent, to proceed, in a sensitive manner, while, also providing sensible solutions, which might optimize results and possibilities! How might someone strengthen his client’s position/ bargaining power/ results, unless he articulates his strategy, and client and agent, proceed, on the same page? It’s important to realize, there’s no, single answer, but rather, each case is different, and it’s about the longer – term goals, so the approach must be relevant and sustainable!
2. Attitude; attention; articulate; action: Because the real estate transaction process, is, often stressful, etc, it’s important, to proceed, with a genuine, positive, can – do, attitude, which is both, contagious, as well as realistic and inspiring! Quality agents pay attention to details, and make every effort, to fully articulate, strategies, reasoning, and realistic expectations, while fully addressing concerns and answering questions. A homeowner, or potential buyer, should discuss, with the person he hires, the action plan, and reasons, expectations, etc, as well as responsibilities, in advance!
3. Needs; negotiating: One of the key, most relevant skills and assets, of a quality agent, is their degree of negotiating expertise/ prowess! While many might indicate, and say, they are great negotiators, observe how they discuss and defend, their requested commission, and you’ll understand, better, if they are, because, if they can’t defend this, and negotiate accordingly, and effectively, how will they handle effective negotiations, on your behalf? Quality, sane representation, is about the best way, to address the needs, concerns and priorities of one’s clients!
4. Empathetic; enrich; excellence; emphasis: Proper representation is about proceeding with the utmost degree of genuine empathy, always placing the needs of one’s clients, before one’s own! Agents must try to enrich others, and proceed with excellence, and focus their emphasis, accordingly!
Home sellers, and buyers need, and deserve, SANE real estate representation! Doesn’t that make sense?
